Transportation

​

The mission of Walsh County Transit is to provide coordinated transportation services for all citizens of Walsh County and foster independence by providing mobility options. 


Walsh County Public Transit (WCT) operates as a demand response service.  WCT is a Qualified Medicaid Provider.  WCT does not provide emergency medical services nor do we operate as a taxi delivery service. Out-of-town services are provided to Grand Forks, Grafton and Fargo.

Bus Schedule:

​

The Walsh County Transportation bus schedule is as follows:  

 - Grafton – Wednesday and Friday, 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.

 - Grand Forks – Every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday

 - Park River – As Requested

 - Fargo – The 2nd Monday of each month

 

Reservations may be made Monday through Friday by calling the office at 701-284-7980 the day before your ride by 3:00 p.m.  Office hours are 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday -Thursday and 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Friday.   You will be given an approximate time for the bus to pick you up.  The transit vehicle can arrive 15 minutes before or after the scheduled time of pick up so please be ready before the scheduled time.  Upon arrival, you will have 5 minutes to board the transit vehicle.  If you fail to board at that time, the driver will consider you a no show and leave.  Continuous violations of this policy may result in future services being denied.  Please pay fare upon entering the vehicle.  Out-of-town fares vary according to destination.  Fares to out-of-town destinations are the same for a one-way trip or round trip.

Passengers with medical appointments are given priority for pick up and drop off times.  Any non-medical appointments should be made after 10:00 a.m.  If the passenger has other transportation needs that are not listed, please inform dispatch of those needs and we will try to accommodate them.

Passengers must wear seatbelts while the transit vehicle is in motion.  Children that are required to be in car seats must be restrained in car seats while the transit vehicle is in motion.  It is the parent’s or guardian’s responsibility to provide the required car seats. Please refrain from talking to the driver while the bus in is motion.

The driver will help someone in a wheelchair onto the transit vehicle and from the transit vehicle to the entrance of a building.  If additional help is needed beyond the main door, they may have one personal care attendant with them. The care attendant would ride the transit vehicle free of charge.  The driver cannot assist passengers up and down stairs or transferring to or from a wheelchair. The driver cannot enter a passenger’s home.

Passengers are expected to carry any packages that were acquired on the day that they rode.

Walsh County Transportation does not operate on the following holidays:  New Year’s Day, Memorial Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, Day after Thanksgiving, Independence Day, Veteran's Day, Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.  Holiday schedules are subject to change.

CANCELLATION PROCEDURES:

Walsh County Transportation requires that passengers cancel their rides the day before the scheduled ride by 3:00 p.m.

Weather RElated Emergencies:

​

In the event of extreme weather conditions making travel unsafe, Walsh County Transportation reserves the right to suspend service until conditions are favorable.  If transportation service is temporarily suspended, all rides, regardless of trip purposes will be cancelled.  Appropriate announcements will be made to the local media and it is the responsibility of the rider to call dispatch when experiencing extreme weather.

Your claim will be addressed by the Project Director through a follow up investigation and appropriate action will be taken to resolve the grievance as quickly as possible.  You will be notified of the action taken by the Project Director in writing within 30 days of grievance submittal. If you are not satisfied with the results, notify the Project Director and she/he will arrange a meeting with the Walsh County Senior Citizens Council. The Council will hear the grievance and make recommendations in writing within 30 days of meeting.
